OneShare Health is an Anabaptist-based HealthShare, headquartered in Irving, Texas. It has been in operation since 2016 as an expansion of a HealthShare that traces its sharing back to the 1990s. According to their website, they have shared over $270 million of members’ medical expenses so far, and nearly $21 million of that was from the last twelve months (from a total of $47 million in member contributions in that time). Members’ monthly contributions go toward the sharing community, with a small portion allocated to charity.
OneShare has religious requirements for joining and members must agree to their Statement of Beliefs. They also offer religious services, including online prayer requests and monthly devotional videos featuring their on-staff chaplain.
Provider network
Members of OneShare Health have access to a network of providers through First Health, which offers an easy-to-use provider locator tool to assist in finding network providers. Although it is not required to use a network provider, members could end up with an additional sharing responsibility if they choose an out-of-network provider.
Pre-notification and limited maternity
Regardless of their membership type, OneShare Health requires its members to notify them of certain medical treatments and services in advance for expenses to be eligible for sharing.
The following is a list of medical needs that require pre-notification in order to be eligible for sharing:
- Outpatient surgery
- Cancer treatment
- Organ/tissue transplant services
- Maternity
- Inpatient hospital visits
- Home healthcare services
- Equivalent/alternative care, including chiropractic and manipulation therapy
Additionally, though OneShare offers several membership options, only the Classic Crown membership offers maternity sharing and limits sharing for those needs ($5,000 for natural delivery; $8,000 for C-Section; and $50,000 for delivery complications).
