HSG Bulletin: New HealthShare Accreditation Board

A red rubber stamp with the word "Accredited" imprinted on white paper.

Recently, the Healthcare Sharing Accreditation Board (HCSAB) was formed. The HCSAB is “an independent panel dedicated to developing and encouraging the highest standards among healthcare sharing organizations.” Though they are new, they already have the backing of the Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries (AHCSM) and they have placed their accreditation seal on two HCSMs so far: Samaritan Ministries and Medi-Share. Both companies display this stamp on their website:

It is worth noting that both companies with HCSAB accreditation are members of the AHCSM. And the AHCSM has advertised for the HCSAB on their website.

The HealthShare industry is young, and there is little unified oversight to help consumers know what to expect from their HealthShare. But, the industry is evolving, and with increased pressure throughout the healthcare industry for transparency, HealthShares are finding ways to evaluate and prove their legitimacy. However, the HCSAB is new, and there is still a long way to go before they prove to be a unifying force in the industry.

Current HealthShares and members interested in accreditation standards may reach out to the HCSAB here.
